Washington Winegrowers is a trade association advocating for winegrowers and vintners on public policy issues affecting their growth and sustainability as well as the go-to source for industry education, offering workshops and seminars that allow members to optimize their business. Since 2000, Winegrowers has been home to a comprehensive online educational guide to sustainable viticulture, winemaking and business practices. Last year, the industry agreed to lean in to sustainability by formalizing a “standard” and adding third-party certification.
“Sustainable WA” was launched in June and is the first statewide certified sustainability program. Built in partnership with all industry organizations, “Sustainable WA” is a commitment to quality fruit, environmental stewardship, and healthy communities. The program was built by and for the industry specifically for Washington vineyards. “Sustainable WA” is science-based, rigorous and with continuous improvement elements covering the pillars of sustainability: environmentally sound, socially equitable, and economically viable.
