SEATTLE (March 17, 2026) — Auction of Washington Wines announced today that Drew Bledsoe, former NFL quarterback and Doubleback Winery founder, will serve as the 2026 honorary chair.
A Washington native and Washington State University alumnus, Bledsoe returned to his hometown of Walla Walla following his NFL career to establish Doubleback Winery with his wife Maura in 2007. His long-standing connection to the Washington wine community and commitment to philanthropy have made Auction of Washington Wines a natural extension of his involvement in the industry.
“Washington has become one of the great wine regions in the world, and I’ve been fortunate to be part of that journey,” said Bledsoe. “Wine is about community, and supporting the organizations that strengthen our industry and care for the people behind it is incredibly meaningful. I’m honored to serve as honorary chair and look forward to celebrating at the events with Auction of Washington Wines in August.”
Auction of Washington Wines returns for its 39th year of fundraising in 2026, continuing its tradition as one of the country’s premier wine auctions. The nonprofit organization supports the growth and awareness of the Washington wine industry while benefiting the greater community through annual events. Proceeds from the auction benefit Seattle Children’s Uncompensated Care Programs and hospital clinics in Eastern Washington, Washington State University’s Viticulture & Enology Department, and VITAL Wines, a nonprofit winery dedicated to improving access to healthcare for vineyard workers and their families through education, advocacy and direct services. Since its founding in 1988, Auction of Washington Wines has raised $72 million in support of community health and the state’s wine industry.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Drew as our 2026 honorary chair,” said Katie Maltais, executive director of Auction of Washington Wines. “He brings incredible enthusiasm for Washington wine and a sincere commitment to giving back. Drew is a strong advocate for evolving and elevating our events, and I’m excited to partner with him to make this year’s auction truly special for our wineries, our community, and our beneficiaries.”
The 2026 Auction of Washington Wines event season culminates in August with the Online Auction, Winemaker Picnic, and Gala, signature events that bring together winemakers, collectors, and supporters for a celebration of Washington wine and philanthropy.
